Find The Right Wooden Flooring For Your Home

Posted by on July 31, 2013 at 7:11 am. Filed under: Uncategorized

Choosing The Right Wooden Flooring

Upgrading the floor of your property with wooden flooring is a brilliant idea. The style, visual appeal, warmth and comfort that these floors offer is simply unbeatable. No matter what, these floors never lose their charm and make a great addition to your home. They are extremely durable, hardwearing and long lasting, offering more value for money. They are also perfect for busy people as they make cleaning and maintenance a breeze. You might be tempted to get your hands on wood flooring, but have you decided on which type will be the right match for your property? If your answer is no, then read on.

The world of wooden flooring is broken mainly into two types; namely solid wood floors and engineered flooring. While both look similar in appearance, functionally, there are a few differences. Discussing these will help you make a better decision on what to choose and what not to choose.

Engineered floors are produced by pressing and gluing few layers of hardwood. Each layer is stacked in a cross grain configuration and bonded together under heat and pressure. Solid wooden floors however, are made from a single piece of hardwood. Due to the cross grain configuration, engineered floors are more tolerant to moisture and not affected by changes in humidity. Thus they can be installed at all levels of a home or property. On the other hand, solid wood floors expand and contract with changes in humidity, making them unsuitable for areas of high moisture, such as the kitchen or bathroom. Engineered floors can be installed floating and glued down and are an appealing option for condominium units. Solid wood floors are not suitable for high rise buildings and are best for people living in single unit homes. Solid wood floors are much thicker when compared to engineered wooden flooring, which allows for more sanding if it becomes marred with use. Engineered flooring does not give much depth for sanding and also shows less tolerance to pet abuse when compared to solid wood floors.

Both these options of wood flooring have their own pros and cons and choosing between them will solely depend on where and how they are used. There are also decisions that you will need to make when it comes to choosing the type of wood and the type of finish. In terms of wood choice, there is a whole range of options, including walnut, oak, Jatoba, Merbau, etc., and the choice is completely yours. The two main finishes for wooden flooring are lacquer and oil. Your choice will depend on the overall look you are going for; if you want a smooth finish you can choose lacquer but for a more textured and natural finish choose oil.

Hardwood Flooring Maintenance Tips

Posted by on July 30, 2013 at 6:57 am. Filed under: Uncategorized

There has been a lot of hype regarding hardwood flooring, mainly due to the numerous benefits it has to offer. The list is endless: it blends perfectly with any atmosphere, it’s extremely hardwearing and offers more value for money, the aesthetics are simply unbeatable, and studies reveal that hardwood floors greatly improve the value of any property. If you have already decided to install hardwood flooring, then the next thing you need to think about is maintenance, especially if you want to make your flooring look as good as new and make your investment worthwhile.

Wondering About Hardwood Flooring Maintenance? Read Tips Below

• Dirt, gravel and grime are the bane of hardwood flooring. Even the finest piece of dust can scratch and mark the floor if not removed promptly. Using heavy duty dirt trapping and walk off mats at all door entrances will prevent dirt, grit and sand from landing on the flooring. Make sure that door mats are kept clean at all times. Hardwood floors can also be dust mopped, vacuumed or swept using a soft bristle broom.
• As part of their natural quality hardwood floors change colour over time, but too much exposure to sunlight can cause the floors to fade. Consider using sheers or window blinds to reduce any uneven patches or fading.
• Floor protector pads or fabric glides must be fixed to the bottom of furniture in order to prevent denting and scratching. Make sure that the protector pads are kept clean and free from dirt, grime and grit.
• Shoes, especially high heels, can cause significant damage to the surface of hardwood flooring. Shoes should be kept in good condition as any metal jutting out can cause dents and scratches.
• If heating systems or air conditioning systems are used, it’s always wise to use a humidifier or dehumidifier to ensure the relative humidity in the home remains at 30% to 50%. This will help maintain the moisture in the wood and will minimise cracks between the boards, especially during dry winters.
• Never pour water directly on the hardwood flooring for cleaning purposes, as it can cause great damage to the flooring. Water can dull the finish and leave a discolouring residue. Always use a damp cloth that is squeezed dry to wipe the floor and immediately wipe dry afterwards.
• Make sure you trim the nails of your pets to prevent scratches on floors.
• Don’t use harsh cleansers or chemicals to clean the floor
• Never slide your furniture while moving it.
• Vacuum cleaners can be used but make sure you use a soft brush head and that the vacuum cleaner is not wheeled over the floor.
• Scratches that aren’t too deep can be fixed. If you already have a protective coating or finish on the floor, then simply re-coating can get rid of surface scratches. For scratches that penetrate the wood you can lightly sand with sandpaper and then apply a wax stick to blend the mark with the rest of the hardwood flooring. Scratches that are really deep need professional care. In this case the wooden plank in question must be repaired or refinished.

Wood Flooring Trends 2013

Posted by on June 6, 2013 at 8:03 am. Filed under: Uncategorized

Wood flooring is becoming a huge trend among homeowners across the UK, with prevailing trends including hard and durable finishes, engineered hardwood, and value. You can expect all of this and more from Nagle Flooring’s high quality wood flooring.

2013 Is All About Durable Wood Flooring

Instead of worrying about the high initial costs when renovating and installing wooden flooring, homeowners are looking at its durability and longevity. Solid flooring is growing in popularity this year thanks to its impeccable hard wearing features that only get better with time.

Another reason for the popularity of engineered wood flooring is its stylish appearance and resilient features that sometimes outshine solid wood floors. Engineered flooring is also not as susceptible to moisture and temperature fluctuations.

Wood Flooring – A Trendy And Valuable Addition To Your Home

Durability and added value are two of the main features most intensely sought after by homeowners looking to remodel their home. People are now less interested in the funds needed for the installation of wooden flooring, and are instead more interested in the investment it offers in the long term.

Warranty is important for wood flooring, as well as the maintenance required in maintaining their gloss and colour. However, wood flooring is easy to clean and maintain.

With Nagle flooring you can be sure that you’re investing in top quality products that will last you a lifetime with proper maintenance, and provide your home with warmth, elegance and added value.

Luxury and style with solid wood flooring

Posted by admin on April 10, 2012 at 10:54 am. Filed under: Uncategorized

If you are keen to replace the flooring in your current home, or need to choose materials to lay in a new-build, you might be eager to find products that epitomise luxury and style. After all, your property is a refuge from the trials and tribulations of the world outside, so it’s important that you are able to relax in it and enjoy its feel and appearance.

Also, having gorgeous flooring can help you take pride in your abode. When people come around to visit you for parties, meals or just for a natter, you no doubt want them to be impressed by what they see.

With this in mind, there may be no better option for you than solid wood flooring. Such provisions are the height of style and they can help ensure your rooms look classy and elegant. Also, there is a real warmth and beauty to these creations and they can turn flooring areas into features, rather than just being spaces that get trampled all over.

These days, there are many different timbers for you to choose from. You might opt to go for oak wood flooring. There is something traditional about this material and it can evoke a genuine, homely feel. Meanwhile, another favourite among consumers is walnut. This has a more unusual grain pattern and can be used to create dramatic effects.

Here at Nagle Flooring we’re passionate about providing the very best solid wood floor products around and may well have just what you’re after. To see our full range, simply take a look around our website.
