House renovations are a great way to breathe new life into your home. Usually homeowners begin with their flooring when renovating their home. Hardwood flooring is a popular choice, but what can you do if you already have this type of flooring installed? Repainting is a great way to refresh the look of your flooring. Follow some of our simple tips for an easy repainting job you can carry out on your wooden floors.

Repainting Hardwood Flooring Made Easy

If you are considering giving your hardwood flooring a new lick of paint, take a look at the simple steps needed to repaint your hardwood floors.

  1. Decide on the colour which will suit your interior best. There are many options available, so having a clear idea will help when it comes to deciding on a colour scheme. You can also create quirky patterns, or let the grain of the hardwood flooring show by applying fewer layers of paint.
  2. Start preparations for the paint. You want to make sure that the surface of the floor is quite rough in order for it to grip the layer of paint. Make sure to carefully clean your flooring and sweep any debris, dust, small particles – anything that can make the paint uneven after you have sanded it. Then add the primer to your flooring that you plan to paint.
  3. This step is similar to the one mentioned above, only this time you need to sand your floors with an even coarser sand paper. Remove any dust with a vacuum cleaner and a damp cloth. However, be careful not to get the fibres of the cloth or mop stuck on the surface.
  4. Paint the floors in thin layers. If you have a solid paint colour, make sure the layers are thin; otherwise it will take longer for the paint to dry.
  5. Apply a layer of topcoat. After the coloured area of the floor has dried, add a sealant or a quality top coat to protect the painted surface.
  6. Allow your hardwood flooring to dry completely. Before you resume any activity, allow your hardwood floors to dry for at least a whole day without anybody stepping on it. Now you have a beautiful painted floor!

Painting your hardwood flooring allows you to update the interior of your home with wonderful results. Alternatively, if you want to go with something completely different, you could have new hardwood flooring installed.
