What To Bear in Mind When Choosing Wood Flooring

Posted by on September 17, 2013 at 7:05 am. Filed under: Solid Wood Flooring

Wood flooring makes a great addition to any home. It complements a wide range of interiors, whether they are modern or traditional, and can increase the value of your house. Wood flooring is also durable, easy to maintain, and comes in a wide range of shades and patterns. If you are considering purchasing wood flooring, there are a few things you will need to bear in mind to make sure you are choosing the most suitable flooring for your home.

What To Know Before Buying Wood Flooring

  • • Species- every species of solid wood flooring has specific characteristics. The colour of the flooring depends on the part of the tree where the wood has been cut from as well as the species.
  • • Finish- wooden flooring is available in two types: pre finished and with a finish in place. Pre finished floors are already sanded, screened and stained by the manufacturers. However, pre finished flooring can still be recoated in your house to bring out its natural beauty. The term ‘finish in place’ means that flooring will need to be sanded, stained and finished after purchase. This allows for a greater level of customisation than with pre finished wood floors.
  • • Durability and maintenance- with wood flooring, you don’t have to worry about maintenance, as it is durable and easy to clean. Scratching can be easily fixed by sanding, and solid wood floors will retain their charm and warmth for decades.

You will also need to think about where you are going to install your wood flooring. Find out how moisture resistant the floor you are planning on installing is. This will help you to decide whether it will be suitable for your kitchen or bathroom.

3 Main Types Of Wood Flooring

Posted by on September 13, 2013 at 12:02 pm. Filed under: Solid Wood Flooring

Are you looking for wood flooring for your home? As there are many styles and types of wooden flooring on the market, choosing the perfect floor can be a challenge. For help with making the right solution for any room in your home, we have created a guide to the top 3 types of wood flooring.

Which Type Of Wood Flooring Do You Need For Your Home?

Wooden flooring is popular among homeowners because of its natural and elegant style. Available in various finishes and materials, wood floors can be selected to match almost any interior within your home. However, there is much more to choosing the right wooden flooring, than simply selecting a colour or wood type.

At Nagle Flooring we sell three different types of wooden flooring. All manufactured the highest of standards; each type delivers a stylish and hardwearing wooden floor for any room in your home.

  • Solid wood flooring. Typically each board is made from a single piece of wood which is 15-20mm thick. Available in Oak, Merbau, Walnut and Jatoba, our solid wood flooring is fitted using a tougue-and-groove system. Extremely durable, solid wood floors can be sanded back to restore the finish and remove scratches and dents. This can be done a number of times; depending on how deep the tongue is set. Solid wood floors can be laid in virtually any room with a consistent atmosphere. It is great for hallways and living rooms where you can really show it off.

Did you know that no one will ever have same solid wood floor to yours? A solid wood floor gives your house a personality and exclusivity, as you won’t find another floor with the same grain anywhere else.

Solid wood flooring is at the top end of the market, making it more expensive than laminate or engineered. Even though this type of flooring might cost you more, in the long run its durability will pay off.

  • Laminate flooring. Laminate flooring is a compressed fibreboard plank covered with a laminate, photographic image of the chosen wood glued on top. As a result of the way it is manufactured, some laminate wood floors are suitable for kitchens and bathrooms, as they do not swell like solid wood. It is great for living rooms, studies and playrooms.

Available in a wide variety of imitation natural materials, laminate wooden flooring is cheap, hardwearing and easy to fit.

  • Engineered wood flooring. Engineered flooring is composed of three of four layers of wood which are bonded together. This type of wooden flooring has a 4mm real wood veneer on top, allowing you to gently sand it back and refinished if it becomes scuffed, worn or damaged.

Stronger than laminate and more stable than solid wood, engineered wooden flooring is a good compromise on quality and price.

Find The Right Wooden Flooring For Your Home

Posted by on July 31, 2013 at 7:11 am. Filed under: Uncategorized

Choosing The Right Wooden Flooring

Upgrading the floor of your property with wooden flooring is a brilliant idea. The style, visual appeal, warmth and comfort that these floors offer is simply unbeatable. No matter what, these floors never lose their charm and make a great addition to your home. They are extremely durable, hardwearing and long lasting, offering more value for money. They are also perfect for busy people as they make cleaning and maintenance a breeze. You might be tempted to get your hands on wood flooring, but have you decided on which type will be the right match for your property? If your answer is no, then read on.

The world of wooden flooring is broken mainly into two types; namely solid wood floors and engineered flooring. While both look similar in appearance, functionally, there are a few differences. Discussing these will help you make a better decision on what to choose and what not to choose.

Engineered floors are produced by pressing and gluing few layers of hardwood. Each layer is stacked in a cross grain configuration and bonded together under heat and pressure. Solid wooden floors however, are made from a single piece of hardwood. Due to the cross grain configuration, engineered floors are more tolerant to moisture and not affected by changes in humidity. Thus they can be installed at all levels of a home or property. On the other hand, solid wood floors expand and contract with changes in humidity, making them unsuitable for areas of high moisture, such as the kitchen or bathroom. Engineered floors can be installed floating and glued down and are an appealing option for condominium units. Solid wood floors are not suitable for high rise buildings and are best for people living in single unit homes. Solid wood floors are much thicker when compared to engineered wooden flooring, which allows for more sanding if it becomes marred with use. Engineered flooring does not give much depth for sanding and also shows less tolerance to pet abuse when compared to solid wood floors.

Both these options of wood flooring have their own pros and cons and choosing between them will solely depend on where and how they are used. There are also decisions that you will need to make when it comes to choosing the type of wood and the type of finish. In terms of wood choice, there is a whole range of options, including walnut, oak, Jatoba, Merbau, etc., and the choice is completely yours. The two main finishes for wooden flooring are lacquer and oil. Your choice will depend on the overall look you are going for; if you want a smooth finish you can choose lacquer but for a more textured and natural finish choose oil.

What Is The Perfect Wood Flooring Solution?

Posted by on July 2, 2013 at 7:01 am. Filed under: Solid Wood Flooring

Three Main Types Of Wooden Flooring

If you are looking for the best flooring solution for your house, wood flooring is an excellent option. If you want to know more about the types of wooden flooring available, here is a short summary of three of the most popular floor types:

• Solid Wood Flooring. This type of flooring is 100 percent wood, and is a highly durable and stylish flooring solution. Even though solid wood floors are easy to maintain and long lasting, we do not recommended installing it in damp areas such as basements or with under-floor heating systems.

• Engineered Wood Flooring. These floors are made of several wood layers that are stuck together, as opposed to individual planks. Engineered wood flooring is also a durable flooring solution. It is highly versatile as it can be installed in areas where solid wood floors are not suitable. This type of flooring is a cost efficient choice so if you have a limited budget but want good quality, engineered flooring is an excellent option.

• Laminate flooring. The popularity of laminate as a flooring solution has been steadily increasing. Authentically resembling wood flooring, it makes a stylish addition to your home. It costs far less than solid or engineered wood flooring, and suits all budgets. Laminate is long lasting but is not as scratch or damage resistant as solid wood flooring.

Why It Is Worth Having Wooden Flooring

If you are unsure about purchasing wooden flooring for your home, consider the advantages that come with owning this type of flooring:

• Durability- Wooden floors are robust and long lasting. Once you have installed wood flooring, you can relax knowing that this type of flooring won’t need to be replaced or refurbished for many years.

• Easy to maintain- Wooden flooring is much easier to keep clean than carpets or tiling. A few minutes of dry sweeping is usually all wood flooring needs enough to look clean and brand new.

• Stylish- Wooden flooring has an elegant, timeless charm that can enhance the décor of any home. It complements a wide range of interior styles, so whether your house features rustic or contemporary design, wood flooring will look great.

• It enhances the property- Wood flooring can add value to your home, and increase its attractiveness to potential buyers if you decide to sell.

• It is a healthy choice- Having wooden floors in your house is healthier than any other flooring. It is a great option for people with allergies as, unlike carpet, it does not collect dust.

Wood flooring is becoming a huge trend among homeowners across the UK, with prevailing trends including hard and durable finishes, engineered hardwood, and value. You can expect all of this and more from Nagle Flooring’s high quality wood flooring.

2013 Is All About Durable Wood Flooring

Instead of worrying about the high initial costs when renovating and installing wooden flooring, homeowners are looking at its durability and longevity. Solid flooring is growing in popularity this year thanks to its impeccable hard wearing features that only get better with time.

Another reason for the popularity of engineered wood flooring is its stylish appearance and resilient features that sometimes outshine solid wood floors. Engineered flooring is also not as susceptible to moisture and temperature fluctuations.

Wood Flooring – A Trendy And Valuable Addition To Your Home

Durability and added value are two of the main features most intensely sought after by homeowners looking to remodel their home. People are now less interested in the funds needed for the installation of wooden flooring, and are instead more interested in the investment it offers in the long term.

Warranty is important for wood flooring, as well as the maintenance required in maintaining their gloss and colour. However, wood flooring is easy to clean and maintain.

With Nagle flooring you can be sure that you’re investing in top quality products that will last you a lifetime with proper maintenance, and provide your home with warmth, elegance and added value.

How To Choose The Correct Wood Flooring For Your Room

Posted by on at 7:43 am. Filed under: discount wood flooring,Solid Wood Flooring

It can be difficult to decide which wood flooring to get as there are a variety of designs from multiple providers. Therefore it is best to educate yourself on the different characteristics of wood and which will work well for your needs.

What Wood Flooring Is Best For You?

At Nagle Flooring you can choose from the three main types of popular wood flooring. They are solid, engineered and laminate.

Solid wood flooring offers a warm, authentic and beautiful colour and texture. Furthermore, as it ages it simply adds more character to your interior design. Engineered wood is very similar to solid wood except it is made up of tightly compressed layers of hardwood.

They offer a timeless look and are easy to maintain due to any lacquered or oiled finish applied on the flooring.

Lacquered finishes sit on top of the wood and provide a nice glossy or matt appearance, depending on your personal taste. With a little bit of sweeping and a quick wipe with floor cleaner, your wood flooring can look good as new. However over time it can experience some wear and tear which will result in you needing to sand and re-finish the whole floor if you wish to renew its appearance.

Oiled finishes on the other hand soak into the wood adding some protection and moisture resistance. There is also the option of having coloured oils which will bring more unique style to your wood flooring choice. Oiled floors require more maintenance with periodic oiling; however this can allow you to easily eradicate any scratches or marks on the wood instantly.

Laminate wood flooring is completely manufactured with composite pressed wood. The image of hardwood is then produced on top to give it the wood flooring appearance. This flooring is therefore best suited for those on a budget.

The 3 Types Of Wood Flooring

Posted by on May 20, 2013 at 9:39 am. Filed under: Solid Wood Flooring

Wooden flooring looks beautiful, brings a sense of warmth to a room, is easy to clean and does not aggravate any allergies like carpet. Wood flooring is a significant investment and can potentially increase the value of any home.

When choosing a type for your home or commercial setting, make sure you are aware of the 3 main types of flooring and what kind you should be looking out for, for your interior design plans.

Types Of Wood Flooring

The three main styles available for you to order from numerous suppliers are solid, engineered and laminate wood flooring.

Solid flooring is made of a single piece of timber and gives the most natural wooden look. At Nagle Flooring you can purchase either finished or unfinished flooring, depending on your plans. Having a finish is beneficial as it helps maintain the great appearance of your floor and also acts as a protective layer. Preventing the wood from being easily damaged.

Hand scraped wood flooring has a lot of character and is a popular choice. It brings a more rustic and distressed look, but with a modern finish it still appears high quality. On our website you can choose from medium, heavy or light scrapping to create a look with holes, splits and other effects. Other solid wood flooring materials available to purchase include Jatoba, Kempas, Merbau, Oak and Walnut.

Engineered wood flooring consists of 1 or 2 top layers in the form of plank. Only the top layer is visible when flooring is installed. It is the most common type used globally and is known for its great versatility in design.

The third type of flooring is laminate. It is suitable for many applications, extremely hardwearing, a much more cost effective investment and is a particular favourite amongst professional fitters.
