Installation Guide

  1. Acclimation: Before installation, allow the solid wood flooring to acclimate to the room where it will be installed. This helps the wood adjust to the temperature and humidity of the space, reducing the risk of expansion or contraction after installation. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for acclimation time.

  2. Subfloor Preparation: Ensure that the subfloor is clean, level, and dry. Remove any existing flooring, debris, or uneven patches. If necessary, use a leveling compound to correct any uneven areas. The subfloor should be structurally sound and free from moisture issues.

  3. Moisture Barrier: Depending on the specific requirements of your space, you may need to install a moisture barrier or underlayment. This helps protect the solid wood flooring from moisture from below. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations or consult with a flooring professional for guidance on the appropriate moisture barrier to use.

  4. Starting Point: Determine the starting point for your installation. It's generally recommended to begin along the longest exterior wall of the room. Leave a suitable expansion gap between the flooring and the walls using spacers. This gap allows for natural expansion and contraction of the wood.

  5. Nailing: Use a flooring nailer or a pneumatic nail gun specifically designed for hardwood flooring. Position the nailer at a 45-degree angle and drive nails through the tongue of each plank into the subfloor. Place nails approximately 6 to 8 inches apart, ensuring they penetrate the subfloor securely.

  6. Staggered Pattern: As you install subsequent rows, stagger the end joints of the planks. This creates a more visually appealing and stable installation. Use a tapping block and mallet to ensure a tight fit between the planks.

  7. Finishing: Once the solid wood flooring is installed, remove the spacers and install the appropriate trim or molding to cover the expansion gap around the perimeter of the room. Sand and finish the flooring according to your desired look and the manufacturer's instructions. This may involve sanding, staining, and applying a protective finish such as oil or lacquer.
